Pricing Methodology

Last updated: 16 July 2026

Every price on CardVaulty is an estimate derived from public data. Here is exactly where it comes from and how we combine it.

1. Sources

  • Cardmarket (via Pokémon TCG API) — European trend price, average sell price, and low price in EUR.
  • TCGPlayer (via Pokémon TCG API) — US market, mid, low and high in USD when Cardmarket has no data.
  • eBay Browse API — live UK listing prices used for the Deals module (bargain scoring and watchlist matching).
  • JustTCG — supplementary price signals used to sanity-check outliers.

2. Currency

Prices are displayed in GBP. When the source is EUR or USD, we apply a simple conversion factor (0.85 EUR→GBP; 0.78 USD→GBP). These are fixed multipliers — not real-time FX — and can drift from the interbank rate.

3. Which fields you see

  • Low — cheapest observed listing (Cardmarket lowPrice or TCGPlayer low).
  • Average — Cardmarket averageSellPrice (or TCGPlayer market/mid fallback).
  • High — Cardmarket trendPrice (or TCGPlayer high).

4. When prices update

Card prices are refreshed on demand — when you open a card page, scan a card, or click "Refresh" in your vault. We store the timestamp of the last refresh alongside the price so you can see how fresh the number is.

5. What we do NOT do

  • We do not fabricate historical price data. Price history graphs in "Insights" are built only from real snapshots you have accumulated in your account.
  • We do not guarantee a sell-through price. The number you'll actually get depends on condition, grade, timing and the buyer.
  • We do not price-adjust based on condition or grade automatically — the displayed price is for a raw copy in typical Near Mint condition.

6. Deals scoring

The Deals module compares a live eBay listing to the reference average price and applies a bargain score. Scores are relative to the reference and are not investment advice. Always verify the seller, condition and shipping cost yourself before buying.

7. Reporting a bad price

If a card is showing a price that looks wildly off, email hello@cardvaulty.com with the card name, set and number.
